15km Le Petit Both

This trail is somewhat more challenging, carving its way through steep passes, the pastoral setting of stunning valleys and up the famous Malenga stairs.

Starting in the small village of La Laura, an approximately 6km long trail will take runners through dense brush to the pass that threads its way between Le Pouce and Pieter Both Mountains, which had once been a source of inspiration for Malcolm de Chazal. Participants will then descend back down into the lush green landscape of Bernardin de St-Pierre Valley and Vallée des Prêtres.

The route joins the Grand Pouce trail at Walmykie before heading toward the Crève Cœur Pass. Once there, runners will follow the track that wraps around Deux Mamelles Mountain and hike up the stairs at Malenga.

After taking in a unique natural spectacle of breathtaking mountain landscapes, the path snakes across sugarcane fields before making its way to the finish line.

This 15km trail is well worth the effort for the spectacular scenery and very pleasant hike!

30km Le Grand Pouce

The 30km-long route of Le Grand Pouce is the pièce de résistance for the most courageous and trained competitors. The Moka Trail’s main event is guaranteed to be an amazing experience with some relatively challenging ups and downs in an awe-inspiring setting.

From the quaint village of La Laura, runners will follow a dirt track uphill to the foot of Le Pouce Mountain. They will then go down a rather technical section leading to the parking area at Le Dauguet. They will get a little time to catch their breath prior to facing a succession of small climbs and descents in the heart of Vallée Pitot.

The trail continues along the contour of La Fenêtre Mountain as it makes its way toward Batterie Dumas (km 12), a historic site which staged in 1810 the last battle before the capitulation of the French forces and the take-over of the island by the British. It is also the first feed zone before crossing Vallée des Prêtres and Bernardin de St-Pierre Valley.

There are other challenges ahead as the trail continues alongside the legendary Pieter Both Mountain to the typical village of Crève Cœur. And then comes the ascent of the famous Malenga stairs before looping around Deux Mamelles Mountain and hopping across two small streams.

Runners will leave behind them the gorgeous mountain landscapes and make their way into the final section of the route, passing through sugarcane fields. The finish line will then be just a short distance away.

A pure moment of trail running magic which requires a very good physical condition, and an incredibly rewarding experience!
