COURSE

The event offers three courses: a 5km run/walk where the whole family can join in, a 10km run/walk including train ride and for the experienced runners a 20km course including train ride which offers lots of hills and some technically challenging sections with spectacular views.

Walkers welcome on the 5km & 10km courses!

10km and 20km includes a train ride from Stainton Siding to Carisbrooke Siding.

Route Description - 10km and 20km runners will be transported by train on the Paton’s narrow gauge line from Stainton Siding just above Korongo Valley, to Carisbrooke Station approximately 7km - where the race will begin.   The scenery on the course is not to be missed.  Participants wind their way back to Korongo Valley  up beautiful green hills through plantation roads and single tracks, along valleys and hills, passing through farm lands, forest areas and indigenous bush where you may experience a couple of technical sections (alternate routes available).  As read about in Alan Paton’s book “Cry the beloved Country”, “These hills are grass covered and rolling and they are lovely beyond any singing of it.” Fiercely competed or enjoyed at a more leisurely pace the views on these trails are well worth the effort.

5km entrants will start and finish at Korongo Valley winding their way through farm lands and forest areas.

There will be water points on the 10 and 20km trails, however, we do advise you carry your own camelbak.

Water Points

10km – There will be one basic water point.
20km - There will be a two basic water points
5km    – no water point on route.
A camelback is highly recommended for the 10 and 20km

Emergency Services

There will be medical staff available at the finish of the race.  If you have an emergency, please stay on the course and a marshal will find you.  It is advisable to have the ICE app on your phone with your medical details.  A backup vehicle will be available if required.

PRIZES & PRIZE MONEY:

Race announcements and lucky draw prize giving will be held at 11h30.

Don’t rush off after the finish! Relax and enjoy the country atmosphere while browsing through the stalls and listening to the talents of some local musicians or take a train ride on the Paton’s’ Express.
