With the 25th annual running of the Fairfield Howick MTB Classic the Howick MTB Club wanted to make it one to remember. Our single track was "Raw and Unplugged" and we wanted to give people a taste of what we enjoy riding.

The ride started from the Howick High School with both routes going out through the SAPPI plantations behind Howick.

The 40km Classic course ended up with about 90% single track with some very technical sections to test even the most experienced rider and to give some of the less experienced riders a chance to see what they can do on a MTB. Jedson Tombs and Travis Walker ended with a sprint finish in a time of -1 hr 50min, with Andrew Warr coming in 3rd. Gauging from the broad grins of riders who completed the route, all riders had a great ride and really enjoyed themselves.

The 20Km Intermediate was no pushover with a generous sprinkling of single track and some great climbing which tested the resolve of a number of the participants.Mark Walker came in 1st overall with David Muller 2nd and Joshua Bull 3rd.

The 10km fun gave the future MTBr's a chance to race each other along the Umgeni River below Midmar Dam.

Everybody is welcome to come and ride these routes all year round, all we ask is that you honour SAPPI's requirement of having a signed indemnity  or display the indemnity board which one can get from our website www.howickmountainbiking.co.za or at Adrenaline Cycles situated Greendale Centre Howick.
