Lynford Clover Super Classic 2011

Burry Stander scorched to victory in the 15th annual  Lynford Clover  40km Superclassic on Sunday. His time of 01:53:07 was over seven minutes ahead of his nearest rival, Kyle Dorkin (02:00:55). Evan van der Spuy was third (02:03:46).

The much-anticipated duel between Burry Stander and the Andrew Hill, winner of many previous Lynford Clover Superclassics, failed to materialize as Hill was forced to withdraw during the race due to medical issues. Sarah Grey took the honours in the women's race (02:30:07), adding this to her 20km Lynford Trail Run win the previous day. Hayley Smith was second (02:37:54), followed by Lynford School teacher Shale Biggs (02:44:28). Julian Jessop won the both the 25km Intermediate race as well as the sub-junior section (01:16:47).

Despite the scorching heat, competitors had a great day out on Lynford's famous single track. Faster riders even managed to reach the marquee in time to watch the Springboks clinch victory in their opening world cup match.

The rest of the weekend was jam-packed with activity, ranging from trail running, to motorbike enduro riding, bands, choirs, craft stalls, ziplines, paintball, giant slides and live music as athletes enjoyed the hospitality of the Ixopo farming community.
