Tourism Van Reenen welcomed  MTB riders from Jo'burg, Durban and surrounding towns to partake in three events, 10 Km, 21 Km and 45 Km,  starting and finishing at The Green Lantern Inn in the village of Van Reenen. Goodie bags with T-shirts, aQuellé water etc, were handed out at the entry tables.

In the 45 Kms, Sean Williams defended his 2010 title, and came in first place in an impressive time of  2:16:14  especially considering the mountainous terrain of the race!

Sean received the Trophy, Gold Medal and cash prize.   Gold medals and cash prizes were also awarded to the winning man and winning lady of the 21 Kms, namely, Marinus Van Sandwyk, 1:03:00 and Laurica Schonken 1:28:35.

Despite the strong winds, spectators could enjoy the fresh Spring growth and magnificent views of green mountains, and they could follow the course of the cyclists from attractive view points (where refreshments were available) from the escarpment for about 60% of the track.   This unique aspect of 'Over the Edge and Back' makes for an enjoyable Family outing.

Of  the many cyclists interviewed, most said it was a tough course, but they had enjoyed the challenge and commented that 'Over the Edge and Back' could become one of the up and coming races in the future.

The mountains around Van Reenen lend themselves to very pleasant mountain biking for the whole family over weekends all year round.
