The Big Five Series Out door and Fitness Expo and Zini Estate Classic

The first events of the MiWay Big Five Series kicked off this past weekend with the Outdoor and Fitness Expo on the Saturday and the first race in the series the Zini Estate Classic on the Sunday.

Both events turned out to be a phenomenal success with the weather playing its part, a bit hot after the cooler weather but otherwise perfect weather. The Expo was well attended by both the general public and riders registering for the Big 5 Series Challenge and entering into the Zululand Multi Sports Club Time Trial.

The Time Trial mens overall winner was Sean Meridew with Joyce Benade the overall womens winner, congratulations to our two top Zululand Cyclists taking the honours in this first ever event.

Expo Exhibitors included Zululand Cycles with a wide range of bikes and accessories, Merida, USN, Power Bar, Rhino Racks, Nashua Mobile, Buzz Rack, I Smart self massagers, Zini River Estates all set up in the the Jabulani Arena at the Umfolozi Casino. Outdoor Exhibitors included, Trappers, Tangawizi Motors, Fast Kawasaki, BMW motorbikes.

A bonus for the exhibitors was the arrival of a film crew from the Miway Mountainbiking channel who filmed firstly Morewood Mountainbikes on display, plus a Kettle Bell Fitness Demonstration by Flux Fluid Motion.

Despite a calendar clash with an eight school sporting event at Grantleigh the success of this inaugural Outdoor and Fitness Expo proved to all that Zululand is cable of hosting an event of this nature, with every exhibitor already confirming their inclusion for a 2012 Expo. We look foward to this.

The Zini Estate Classic

A recipe for success, take 900 riders ! perfect weather, an amazing venue overlooking the coastal forest and ocean, slick organisation, free MiWay bike washes, Skincare Massages, aerial filming from the Bell Helicopter , a Nashua Skydiving team who landed on MiWay frizzbies scattered on the fairway golf course, add all of this to some of the most diverse track any mountain biker could dream of and you have some very happy faces, riders and sponsors both. Well down to all those who contributed to the success of this event and a big thank you to all those riders who travelled from a far. The Big five series has taken off in a big big way and we're all looking forward to the next four races in the series.

Action was fast and furious in the front in the 50km mens race with Tyronne White and David Leiman sticking together for almost all the way and Tyronne eventually taking the line followed by Nick Porteous, one of our Expo Exhibitors taking third position. Top overall ladies no 1 position 50km was Danielle Dalton followed by her sister Heidie and in third position Tammy Visagie.

The 25km Overall mens was won by Shaun White and the womens race Joyce Benade.

Remember this is just the beginning, the four best times count, the bets are on, come on riders take up the Big 5 challenge, next race Heatonville 26th June.
