The 2nd Gears 4 Ears MTB fundraiser held at Holla Trails, Ballito on the 28th October 2012 was a huge success. Entry number doubled from the previous year and the weather held on the day. Of course the preceding deluge of rain experienced leading up-to the race did create an additional dimension known as "MUD" but as one cyclist said this isn't a factor, that's why we do MTB riding. The day saw a big group tackle the 50km trail and a much larger group tackle the 19km trial. Our camera man was out there capturing the action and emotions, these fantastic pictures can be viewed on the Gears 4 Ears facebook page.

Our winners on the day were as follows- 50km 1st lady in Natalie Bergstroom time 2h32, 1st man in Sipho Khupiso time 2h13. 19km 1st lady in Michelle du Toit time 1h02, ist man in Mariu Mthembu time 49min11.

Burry Stander who set up a workshop at the venue was on hand to hand out prizes at the end of a great day of cycling, our thanks to Burry. Our thanks to all entrants who braved the mud, our sponsors, Holla Trails, Orchid House and our band of volunteers who all played a role in ensuring a great day. Make a note, our next fundraiser is at the same venue on the 27th October 2013.

I got 6 of us to enter this race online, it said first 500 online entries get a goodie bag nothing about first 100 entries get shirts 1 of us got a shirt, i thought this was poor as we basically got a plastic bag. The markings were poor as 3 times I saw people go off track only to turn around. Its a shame as it was actually a great track and probably the most fun ride I have had.

50km : Great ride enjoyed. Great single track especialy through the natural forrest, some questionable parts and second thoughts making exciting riding. generally well marked but fell short near the end.

Well done on making the best possible under the conditions. Single track was superb! Markings towards the end of the race were confusing.
