The 2012 edition of the Illovo Eston MTB Challenge once again attracted a massive field of 3200 riders across four different races, with many of the country's top riders from KZN, Gauteng and Cape Town making the trip to the Eston area.

Perfect weather greeted riders on their arrival at the Eston Farmers Club, with the 60km riders setting off at 08h00. Race favourite Brandon Stewart pulled out early on due to flu after taking the King of the Mountain prize, which left Max Knox out in front to take the title. As much as the racing was hot, much of the event is about the social riders in the 40km and the 18km Tala ride, which this year took in a totally new route inside the game reserve.

This was my first off road race - I did the 18km - and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very well organised and I can't wait to do another one.

This event was so well organised!! Everything was slick and smooth. Well done to all those involved in the organisation of the event - no wonder it is the largest one day MTB event in South Africa.

Great event for my first 40km MTB race. Left my cleats in the mens showers. If anyone picked them up could you please drop me a mail, would really appreciate it. mackintoshjb@gmail.com

Great 60km course - some serious climbing to test us, especially the "Italian Road"!!! The organisation was top class. It's just a pity we didn't get some rain a few days before the event.

awesome eston ilovo race really enjoyed it. But what happened with the results. Normally we get sms or website but this time no feedback.

My first MTB event, I probably should have done the 18km but I went for the 40km. I fell twice on the single track and it was very tough but I learnt a lot and will definitely be cycling again as soon as I'm all healed. Already checking the calender, I hope all the other races run as smoothly as this one did

Awesome event, course well marked on the 40km, tough route but an enjoyable route. Will be back in 2013, hopefully for the 60km.

Well done on a brilliant course.

I saw quite a few camera men throughout the day.Where can we view these photos and or footage?

Eston was amazing. Really enjoyed the 18km...Only my 2nd event ever. The single track was a bit crowded but still enjoyable once everyone started moving. Will be back for 40km next year.

What a great course! Well balanced 40 km race! Enjoyed it thoroughly!
