THE John Dory's Golovane race at Holla Trails near Ballito gave riders a little bit of everything … including a bit more moisture than most competitors wanted.

After a very wet start which threatened to turn the race a mud bath, blue skies took over and riders were treated to magnificent conditions for a race that threw up some real and varied mountain biking conditions.

Andrew Hill made full use of the misfortune which befell Brandon Stewart when a cut in his tyre ended his chance of victory. Hill proved his versatility by cruising to a solid victory over the 50km course. With some tight technical single track, as well as some hard district road climbs and lots of typical coastal cane track Hill had to use his full repertoire of skills to get away from a strong group of riders that included Guylin van den Berg, Sean Merredew and Carl Calverly.

In the women's event, young Bianca Haw upstaged her older rivals to beat off the efforts of a trio of sub vets, Nedene Cahill, Natalie Bergstrom and Bridgette Stewart.
The early morning rain kept almost half the entries under their duvets, but those that braved the weather were treated to some great trails at one of the best mountain bike venues in the province and also missed out on the fantastic post-race atmosphere with a live band at the Orchid Gardens venue.
