Saturday, 3 November dawned with a promise of a great summers day.  The last of about 1.5km barrier tape was put up in the morning and by 15h00 the food stall was in place as well.  Before 16h00 the first riders arrived to register while a light breeze was cooling down the area.  The start was delayed for a couple of minutes to allow some late arrivals to fall in on the starting line.  There was a surprisingly large number of solo riders among the relatively small group that started on their first lap.

The course has been built specially for the race with no technical obstacles which ensured a smooth surface free of rocks and roots for the riders to enjoy.  The worst muddy sections (after all the rain) has been covered with wooden bridges, but there were still a few patches where the mud was turned into a tough dough that sucked on the wheels every time the riders went through it.  With a lap distance of only 3.8km and a vertical climb of 70m per lap, it was by no means a tough course, but it all starts adding up after a couple of hours, especially for the solo riders.

Some delicious hamburgers and boerewors rolls along with their usual pancakes were prepared by the Nefdt family for riders and spectators alike with some hot moer koffiee to keep the caffiene levels high.  Just Water was on hand to keep everybody hydrated with everything from water to their new Giant Energy drink while Squirt Lube were on hand to see that the drive trains on the bikes stay lubed.  technical back-up were supplied by Cycleworx and Firstcare Medics had a relaxing time with only mechanical help that had to be given by them to jump start one of the vehicles that was supplying power to the lights.

The course was laid out to allow the riders to pass through the service area three times, but most of the course was visible from the edge of the service area, it made for some exiting viewing for the spectators and supporters once the sun has set and everybody was riding with their lights on.

The first lap was done in a blistering time of just over 11 minutes by Billy Flattery with Marthinus Esmeyer close behind him.  Amy Williams was the only female solo rider, but had to withdraw unfortunately duo to other commitments.  The teams were really riding hard with the Frekens and Vissers pushing each other all the time.

Thanks to the sponsorship of Cape Union Mart, Coimbra Cycles, Cycle&Sports Centre, Just Water, Paradise Adventures, Ride Life, Squirt Lube and Willy Marx Cycles who ensured the riders were treated to some great prizes and nobody went home empty handed.  A special thanks to Mike, Sharon and Donne who did the time keeping and at times had difficulty reading the race numbers in the dark!

Team results: Team Freken (1-17 laps),  Team Louis (2-17 laps),  The Rising Sunsets (3-16 laps)

Solo results:  Billy Flattery (1-19 laps), Marthinus Esmeyer (2-16 laps), Steven Cronje (3-15 laps)
