Rain, wind and a temperature drop of nearly 20 degrees did not seem to deter very many people from taking part in the inaugural iCycle Sugar Classic on Sunday June 9.  An early start in the morning was met with rainy conditions but nothing seemed to dampen the spirit and the sense of anticipation for the new MTB trails.

The venue, which is still in development stage, came to life as all involved prepared the marquees, kids play areas, showers, toilets, a market, food and drink stalls, and as cyclists, supporters, families and everyone else arrived the place was completely transformed overnight into a hive of activity!

The route was a 24km trail which was doubled up for the 47km race which meant that the rain turned the second round into a more slippery trail so very different to the first attempt.

Apart from the inevitable wipeouts, the riders had fun and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of both the trails and the weather.

Just under 400 riders participated in the MTB riding and over 60 kids took part on the Concept Cyclery Kids Classic race.  The prizes were impressive with the winners taking home cheques valued at over R10,000. The winning kids won helmets and other fantastic prizes and 2 lucky children went home on brand new bikes.

The organisers said they have been overwhelmed with the response, support and positive feedback continuing to flow in constantly.  Without the support of the sponsors, farmers and willing hands ready to help wherever needed, we would not have been able to pull off such a successful event and we are so grateful to everyone involved.
