The aQuellé Hermannsburg Mudman

Lots of mud, a hot summer's day, hundreds of eager athletes - the perfect ingredients for yet another superb Hermannsburg Mudman. The day started off with the Spur Mudskipper Adventure for the little ones and their very competitive parents. Their event consisted of a swim in the pool, followed by a short cycle and ending with a victory run through the big aQuellé arch.

The main event kicked off with the paddlers and swimmers braving the still chilly dam water on the first leg of the half- and full-distance events. The next leg took the cyclists along the off-road track, through the picturesque forests around Hermannsburg with the run coming last, past the tall mealies, over the floating bridge and other scenic spots, before ending on the athletics track below the stadium and marquee. The fast track received rave reviews from many of the participants seeming to have just the right amount difficulty and speed for everyone

Year after year, the Hermannsburg Mudman attracts world-class athletes and this year was no exception. The 2013 winners are as follows:

Individual half-distance (U17) - Jedd Brown and Kelly-Ann Fjellvik

Individual half-distance (U14) - Tristan Walshe and Rachel Louise Brown

Individual half-distance (U11) - Alexander Edley and Jessica Leigh Brown

Half-distance Team - Farmers Agricare (veterans), Pan-Tasties (open), Speedoholics (U17) and Mitida (U14)


Individual full-distance (open) - Ross Fountain

Individual full-distance (veterans) - Ewan Cochran and Caroline Minnaar

Individual half-distance (open) - Gavin Dundas-Starr and Linda de Beer

Individual half-distance (U17) - Ruben van Niekerk and Kayla de Beer

Individual half-distance (U11) - Matthew Wilson

The winners of this year's corporate challenge were Pannar's Pan-Tasties, while the High School and Primary School challenges were won by Greytown High School and Wartburg School respectively. The 'longest-day' prize went to two die-hards who refused to give up, namely Angela Redinger and Renée Langermann.
